Explain your role here at KORTX. What team are you on?

As the Marketing Director at KORTX, my role encompasses diverse responsibilities, from driving brand awareness and revenue growth to content creation and executive communications. I lead a small but mighty team of three, ensuring our marketing efforts align seamlessly with KORTX’s broader business objectives.

When did you join KORTX?

I joined the company in March 2017, becoming the seventh employee. Before KORTX, I was immersed in the agency world at Weber Shandwick, focusing on PR, corporate communications, and media relations for General Motors.

Looking back now, we laugh as my journey with KORTX began in a modest office setting with six guys, and I came from the large, flashy agency world. However, this change has proven to be the best decision. It’s been incredibly rewarding to be a part of KORTX’s journey, witnessing and contributing to the company’s growth and evolution from its early stages.

What do you love about KORTX?

What initially drew me to KORTX was a combination of personal connection and professional excitement. My brother, Chris Rowell, Co-Founder and Chief Revenue Officer, encouraged my transition from the agency world.

I love my role’s versatility, allowing me to engage in various aspects of the business. The opportunity for cross-functional collaboration and the sense of camaraderie across the organization are both things that truly inspire me. Additionally, the company’s supportive environment, especially the encouragement from leadership, fosters a culture of creativity and innovation. This makes each day at work not only rewarding but also uniquely exciting.

What got you interested in marketing?

In college, I worked in retail, which led me to an internship with a fashion designer in New York. It was there that I discovered my passion for marketing and public relations. I was excited by the dynamic world of event planning and experiential marketing. However, instead of pursuing a career in event planning alone, I chose to pivot into PR as I saw it as a compelling platform to bring both stories AND experiences to life.

After graduating from Grand Valley State University, my journey in PR began at a small agency focused on supporting nonprofits, which gave me a deep dive into the nuances of earned media. Eventually, I transitioned to Weber Shandwick, where I further honed my skills. Though centered around PR, each of these roles laid the groundwork for the more expansive role I would take at KORTX, intertwining different facets of marketing and communications.

What’s your biggest challenge in your role?

Marketing encompasses many diverse aspects – from brand strategy and content development to sales support and executive communications – and it’s easy to be lured by all the latest trends. For me, the key challenge lies in prioritizing tasks and initiatives that will genuinely drive change and align with our long-term vision. Balancing the need for innovation with the execution of daily tasks and identifying what will most effectively move the needle is a complex task.

However, the challenge of striking the right balance between innovation and routine responsibilities makes each day in my role so exciting.

What’s a typical day like for you?

My days are a blend of managerial and strategic tasks. They involve collaborating with Sales, Strategy, and Product teams to ensure our marketing efforts are aligned with the company’s overall goals.

I provide feedback on content and design, strategize with the executive team on content plans, and dive into marketing data to gain insights. Additionally, I work with Product and Engineering to develop strategies for product launches and go-to-market plans. Balancing these diverse responsibilities ensures we meet both internal and external needs while focusing on larger company objectives.

What are your favorite things to do outside of work?

Family is everything to me. My daughter, Mila, is a year and a half old, and I’m pregnant with another baby girl, due in March!

At this phase of life, my husband and I certainly stay busy with an active toddler, and I wouldn’t trade it for the world. Outside of being a working mom, I enjoy a glass of wine with friends, a tough workout, and evenings on the lake with family.

What was your favorite band ten years ago?

This was over 10 years ago, but my first concert was Spice Girls. Add Backstreet Boys, NSYNC, and Britney Spears to the mix, I’m a true ‘90s baby. 🙂
